Biography

Alto saxophonist Markus Howell is a performer, composer, and educator from Deerfield Beach, Florida. Markus Howell is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Music and Master of Music in Jazz Studies. Markus has performed with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency in Washington D.C. where he performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Howell has performed or recorded with top leaders on their respectful instruments including Rodney Whitaker, Etienne Charles, Joe Magnarelli, Michael Dease, Randy Napoleon and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Markus has performed at festivals such as the Detroit Jazz Festival, East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival in Rockville Pike, Maryland. As an educator, Howell is currently on faculty as a Mentor Fellow at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. Markus will be releasing his debut album Get Right! on Posi-Tone Records in June 2019.
